Best SEO tools for small business in 2026: real prices, compared
Best SEO tools for small business in 2026: real prices, compared
How we make money: if you subscribe for Mangools through our links, Mangools pays us a commission. You pay the same price. None of the other six tools pay us, and those links go straight to their official pricing pages.
Most SEO tool reviews are written for agencies, and the tools they recommend cost $130 to $550 a month. A small business usually needs much less: find keywords worth targeting, see who ranks for them, track your positions, and fix what Google flags on your site. We compared seven tools on what that core job costs, using each vendor’s live pricing page in monthly, yearly, and lifetime views.

The 7 SEO tools, reviewed
Each review covers what the tool is best at, the limits that matter, and who should skip it.
Mangools: easiest complete SEO toolkit for a small business
- FreeFree plan with daily lookup limits, no card
- Basic$61/mo, or $37.70/mo billed yearly ($452.40)
- Premium / Agency$52.70 / $97.70 per mo billed yearly
Mangools bundles five easy tools: KWFinder for keyword research with its own difficulty score, SERPChecker for analyzing who ranks, SERPWatcher for rank tracking, LinkMiner for backlinks (from Majestic’s index), and SiteProfiler for domain metrics. Every plan now also includes AI Search Watcher, which monitors how AI assistants mention your brand (500 prompts). It’s known for being the friendliest SEO suite for beginners, and its keyword research is the strongest part.
Basic costs $37.70 a month billed yearly ($61 monthly) and includes 100 keyword lookups and 100 SERP lookups per 24 hours, 200 tracked keywords updated weekly, and 100,000 backlink rows a month. Premium ($52.70 yearly) raises lookups to 500 a day and adds 3 extra seats. Daily rank updates require Agency. The weaker spots: it doesn’t have a full site-audit crawler like SE Ranking or Semrush, and its refund window is only 48 hours. The free plan lets you try it before paying.
Pros
- Easiest interface here for non-specialists
- Excellent keyword research and difficulty scores
- Free plan, plus API and MCP access on paid plans
- AI search monitoring included
Cons
- Basic plan tracks ranks weekly, not daily
- No full technical site-audit crawler
- Only a 48-hour refund window
- Smaller backlink index than Ahrefs or Semrush
Skip it if you need deep technical audits across large sites. SE Ranking or Semrush does that better.
Google Search Console: free, and everyone should use it
- PriceFree
- DataYour real Google clicks, impressions, and average position
- LimitOnly sites you’ve verified you own
Search Console isn’t a competitor to the paid tools. It’s the one tool every site owner should set up first. It shows the actual queries that bring people to your site, with clicks, impressions, and average position, straight from Google. It also flags indexing problems, Core Web Vitals issues, and manual actions, and lets you submit sitemaps and inspect individual URLs.
What it can’t do: show you keywords you don’t rank for yet, analyze competitors, or check backlinks in depth. That’s why most businesses pair it with one paid tool.
Pros
- Free, with real data from Google
- Indexing, Core Web Vitals, and security alerts
- Shows queries you already get traffic from
Cons
- No competitor or new-keyword research
- Average positions, not daily rank tracking
- Interface takes some learning
Skip it if never. Set it up even if you buy something else.
Ubersuggest: cheapest paid option, with a lifetime deal
- Individual$29/mo · $192/yr · $290 lifetime
- Business$49/mo · $326/yr · $490 lifetime
- Trial7 days on monthly plans
Ubersuggest, from Neil Patel’s company, covers keyword ideas, site audits, rank tracking, and backlinks at the lowest price here. The Individual plan (1 site, 150 reports a day) is $29 a month, $192 a year, or $290 once for a lifetime plan. Business covers 2 to 7 sites.
Its data is shallower than Semrush or Ahrefs, and the lifetime plan is a limited-time offer that’s non-refundable, so use the 7-day trial first. Ubersuggest says prices vary by region.
Pros
- Lowest yearly price here
- Lifetime option pays for itself in about 1.5 years vs yearly
- Simple dashboards and SEO training included
Cons
- Shallower data than the big suites
- Lifetime purchases are final
- Prices vary by region
Skip it if you need reliable competitor and backlink data.
SE Ranking: most rank tracking and audits for the money
- Core$129/mo, or $103.20/mo billed yearly
- Growth$279/mo, or $223.20 yearly
- Trial14 days, no card
SE Ranking is a full suite (rank tracking, site audits, keyword and competitor research, backlinks) that costs less than Semrush. Core includes 10 projects and 1 manager seat. Add-ons cover AI search tracking (+$89 a month, or $71.20 yearly), white-label agency features, and API access.
It’s a good step up from Mangools if technical audits and daily rank tracking for several sites matter most. It’s more than many single-location businesses need.
Pros
- Strong rank tracking and site audits
- Cheaper than Semrush at similar depth
- 14-day trial without a card
Cons
- $103+/mo is a lot for one small site
- AI search tracking costs extra
- Many add-ons to understand
Skip it if you run one local business website.
Semrush: deepest all-in-one suite
- Entry SEO plan$139/mo, or $117.33/mo billed yearly
- SEO + AI Search$199/mo, or $165.17 yearly
- Trial7 days
Semrush is the most complete toolkit here: keyword research, competitor analysis, position tracking, site audits, backlinks, content tools, and AI-search visibility reports. The entry SEO plan covers 5 websites and 500 tracked keywords for $139 a month ($117.33 billed yearly).
For a small business it’s often more tool than you’ll use, and the price climbs quickly with add-ons and extra users. If you have an in-house marketer doing SEO every week, it’s worth the money.
Pros
- Most complete feature set
- Huge keyword and competitor databases
- AI search visibility tracking
Cons
- Expensive for a small business
- Add-ons and extra users cost more
- Steep learning curve
Skip it if SEO is a once-a-month task for you.
Ahrefs: best backlink data (Moz is the alternative)
- Lite$129/mo, or $108/mo billed yearly
- Starter$29/mo for basic research
- Moz ProStandard $99/mo, or $79 yearly; $49/mo for one site
Ahrefs is known for its backlink index and competitor research. Lite (5 projects, 750 tracked keywords, 6 months of history) is $129 a month or $108 billed yearly. Starter at $29 a month covers basic keyword and competitor research. Ahrefs’ free tools for your own verified site are useful even if you never pay. One caution: Ahrefs says it generally doesn’t issue refunds.
Moz Pro is the other long-standing name. It created the Domain Authority metric. Standard is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for 3 tracked sites and 300 tracked keywords, and a $49-a-month plan covers one website. Both are strong, but for a typical small business, Mangools or SE Ranking cover the core job for less.
Pros
- Best-in-class backlink data (Ahrefs)
- Cheap $29 Ahrefs Starter for research
- Moz’s free MozBar and Domain Authority
Cons
- Ahrefs generally doesn’t refund
- Full plans cost $79 to $129+ a month
- More than most small sites need
Skip it if you don’t actively build backlinks.
How we picked
To be clear about our method: this guide is based on research, not a months-long hands-on test of every tool. Here’s what went into it:
- Live pricing pagesWe loaded each pricing page on October 5, 2026 and recorded monthly, yearly, and lifetime views.
- Plan limits and FAQsDaily lookups, tracked keywords, projects, refund policies, and trial terms.
- Published reviewsIndependent reviews on data quality, ease of use, and support.
- Small-business fitOne local site, a small online store, a service business, or a solo marketer.
Commissions don’t decide the ranking, and we’ve said plainly where our top pick is weaker. Mangools is first because it covers the core small-business SEO job (keywords, competitors, rank tracking, backlinks) in the easiest interface here, at a fraction of the big suites’ price. If you need technical audits for several sites, SE Ranking is the better fit. If the budget is close to zero, start with Google Search Console and Ubersuggest. We say so above.

How much should a small business spend on SEO tools?
Often $0 to $50 a month. Search Console is free, Ubersuggest Individual is $16 a month billed yearly, and Mangools Basic is $37.70 a month billed yearly. Semrush, Ahrefs, and SE Ranking start at $100 to $140 a month.
Is Mangools good enough, or do I need Semrush or Ahrefs?

Increasingly, yes. Mangools includes AI Search Watcher on every plan, Semrush and Moz include AI-visibility features on some plans, SE Ranking sells it as an add-on, and Ahrefs sells Brand Radar AI separately.
